What happened

What happened to Mozilla Monitor Plus?

Mozilla launched Monitor Plus in February 2024 as a paid add-on to its free breach checker. It scanned people-search sites for your name, address and phone number and sent removal requests, with OneRep doing the removal work behind the scenes. In March 2024 KrebsOnSecurity reported that OneRep's founder had also set up people-search sites, and Mozilla said it would end the partnership. It kept the service running through 2025.

In November 2025 Mozilla announced that Monitor Plus would close on December 17, 2025. Subscribers received automatic prorated refunds for unused time, and Mozilla said all Monitor Plus data, including broker scan results and the details users had submitted, would be deleted after the shutdown. Customers of the Privacy Protection Plan bundle were moved to a cheaper bundle with the VPN and email masks but without removal.

Do you need a Mozilla Monitor Plus replacement?

If you used Monitor Plus to keep your address and phone number off people-search sites, yes. Removal is not permanent. Brokers rebuild profiles from public records, marketing lists and other brokers, and relisting within three to six months is common. Monitor Plus was the thing that rescanned and refiled; since December 2025 nothing has been doing that for former subscribers.

The free Mozilla Monitor that remains is a breach checker. It tells you when an email address appears in a known data breach, which is useful, but it does not look at people-search sites and it cannot remove anything. A quick scan shows whether sites such as Spokeo, Whitepages or TruePeopleSearch have already put you back.
